Addressing Loose Skin with Eyelid Surgery

Eyelid Surgery

Eyelid surgery is an effective way of getting rid of unwanted skin or fat from around your eyelids. Sometimes people will refer to this procedure as an eyelid lift, but this does not fully describe what happens during the procedure. The surgery can be performed on the lower eyelid, upper eyelid, or both, depending on the results you would like to see.

Eyelid surgery on the upper eyelid typically consists of removing excess, drooping skin from the area, resulting in a rejuvenated appearance. Eyelid surgery on the lower eyelid usually involves removing both excess skin and fat from the area, drastically reducing puffiness and bags under the eyes.

Most people will have this surgery performed because they are tired of the way that excess fat and excess skin on their eyelids makes their eyelids look artificially heavy. When a person’s eyelids look artificially heavy, they often appear to be older than they really are. Swollen and puffy eyes can sometimes even block a person’s field of vision.

When eyelid surgery is performed on the upper eyelid and excess fat and skin are removed, many people are able to see clearly for the first time in many years. This is because, depending on the severity of the loose skin on the eyelids, it can actually interfere with one’s vision. Eyelid surgery effectively removes the skin blocking the patient’s field of vision, resulting in better eyesight.

Eyelid surgery that focuses on the lower eyelids is designed to improve the contour of the eyelid. If a person has excess fat under their eyes, giving them a baggy appearance, this procedure will remove the fat, tighten up the skin and muscles, and make a person look healthier and younger.

Good candidates for this procedure include those who are in generally good health and are unhappy with the way their eyelids are making them look. The best way to determine your candidacy for eyelid surgery is to talk to Dr. Rios during your initial consultation. He will go over your questions, concerns, and goals and help you decide if this procedure is the best course of action for you.

At Rios Center for Plastic Surgery, Dr. Rios spends every day helping patients in Edinburg achieve their aesthetic goals with a wide variety of cosmetic procedures. To learn more about how you can benefit from eyelid surgery, contact us today and schedule your consultation.
