If you want to increase your breast size, you are among many people who seek breast augmentation procedures. This surgery is one of the most common that we perform at our surgery center.

At Rios Center for Plastic Surgery, Dr. Rios combines his natural talent for breast procedures with years of experience to help many patients achieve their desired results whether they are first-time breast augmentation patients, are interested in breast revision, or are looking for an experienced surgeon for breast reconstruction. We look forward to discussing your case during a consultation in Edinburg, TX.

What Is Breast Augmentation?

Breast augmentation is a surgical procedure that enlarges the size of the breast through implants or other techniques. At our surgical center, we offer many different techniques so that we can meet you exactly where you are. At our practice, our surgeries can be performed for patients who need breast reconstruction after cancer treatments or who are looking for revisions after having surgery in Mexico. This procedure can also be perfect for individuals with naturally small breasts or for those whose breasts appear deflated after childbirth or weight loss.

Saline Implants

While the exterior of saline implants is still made from silicone, these implants are filled with a saltwater solution rather than silicone gel. Saline implants can be a good choice for some patients because they often require a smaller incision, they eliminate the risk of a silent rupture and they can create a more augmented or rounded appearance. Because this type of implant is filled after being inserted, they are highly customizable to address size differences between breasts. They are also approved for women who are 18 years of age or older and they are often a more affordable option.

Downsides of this material can include the fact that they are a less natural-feeling breast implant and they can sometimes have visible ripples. However, with proper placement by an experienced and board-certified plastic surgeon, you can achieve very satisfactory results with this type of implant.

Silicone Implants

Silicone implants are also made from a silicone shell, but they are also filled with silicone gel. This type of implant can offer results that are more natural-looking as well as breasts that feel more natural. Today there are more options than ever for silicone implants which means that there is an implant for nearly every situation. Some silicone implants have a firmer texture and a more consistent shape, while others can move with your body and behave more like natural breast tissue. The implant we recommend will be based on your goals, your lifestyle, and your body.

Gummy Bear Implants

Gummy bear implants are silicone implants that have a gel that is more cohesive than other implants. This material minimizes the risk of silicone leaking because the material stays in place even when ruptured. This type of implant is teardrop shaped and feels firmer than other types.

Additional Options to Consider for Your Breast Augmentation

Placement

Breast implants can be placed over or under the muscle depending on what fits your situation better. Implants under the muscle can provide a more natural look while placing them over the muscle can come with a shorter recovery time. If you have more breast tissue, we may recommend an over the muscle placement, while those with little tissue may benefit from under the muscle placement. Every situation is different and a consultation is the only way to determine the correct surgery type for you.

Profile

Profile refers to how far the breast protrudes from the chest wall. Higher-profile implants offer a more augmented look while lower-profile implants can be suitable for women with wider chests.

Implant Shape

Implant shape is another consideration when choosing implants. Some implants are round while others have a tear-drop shape. Round implants are often smooth because rotation of the implant will not affect the placement. Tear-drop shaped implants are often textured to help keep them in place.

Can Breast Lift and Augmentation Be Performed Together?

Yes, breast lift and augmentation can be performed at the same time. This provides many benefits for the patient who will only have to undergo one surgery and one recovery process. Because breast augmentation can only provide additional volume to the breasts and cannot correct placement, both surgeries will be indicated if you have concerns about sagging breasts or nipple placement.

Choosing Your Silhouette With Vectra 3D Imaging

One of the best tools that we have at our practice is our Vectra 3D Imaging platform. This device gives us the ability to show you your breast augmentation before and after during your consultation. We will take images of the treatment location and then we can create an accurate image of what you could look like after your surgery. This allows you to proceed forward with your surgery while having healthy and accurate expectations and to discuss different options with your surgeon.

Choosing a Plastic Surgeon for Your Breast Augmentation

Choosing the right surgeon for your breast augmentation is crucial for avoiding revisions. You should always make sure that the surgeon you choose is board certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery and that they have hospital privileges. Dr. Rio was awarded McAllen’s Favorite Plastic Surgeon for many consecutive years and has performed hundreds of these surgeries.
