Many people struggle to get the slim, sculpted figure they desire. It’s very common to carry excess fat around your midsection, thighs, or other areas even though you exercise and follow a healthy diet. When diet and exercise alone aren’t producing the aesthetic goals you want, liposuction surgery can help.

Liposuction uses gentle suction and other technology to remove unwanted fat from various areas of the body. Rios Center for Plastic Surgery offers Vaser lipo and other body contouring procedures for clients in and around Edinburg, TX. Find out more about liposuction in the guide below.

What Is Liposuction?

Liposuction is a cosmetic surgical procedure that can help you achieve a slimmer, more toned figure. The main goal of liposuction is fat reduction. Using advanced technology and gentle suction power, liposuction surgery removes fat from problem areas. For most patients, these areas include the stomach, back, thighs, arms, and buttocks.

What Is Vaser Lipo?

Vaser lipo is a specific type of liposuction procedure that uses ultrasound technology. During a Vaser lipo procedure, intense ultrasound waves are emitted into the problem areas to break down excess fat cells. (This breakdown process makes the cells easier to remove during the liposuction step of the surgery.)

Vaser lipo is considered to be a less intense version of traditional liposuction surgery, which usually involves manual methods of breaking down fat cells.

Who Is a Good Candidate for Vaser Lipo Body Sculpting?

A good candidate for liposuction surgery is a patient who’s looking to remove unwanted fat. The ideal candidate for liposuction is someone who has moderate to significant amounts of excess fat around the midsection, thighs, or arms.

To confirm that you are a good candidate for liposuction, you should schedule a consultation with us. We’ll assess your excess fat and go over the aesthetic goals you’re trying to achieve.

Liposuction surgery is not the ideal option for every patient. Those with small amounts of unwanted fat may benefit from non-surgical fat reduction instead. If this is the case, we’ll explore alternative options during your consultation.

The Complete Vaser Lipo Process

Are you interested in Vaser lipo to get rid of your unwanted body fat? Before seeking any new cosmetic procedure, it’s a good idea to know what it entails. Take a look at this guide to the entire Vaser lipo process from preparation to results.

Preparing for Surgery

Prior to scheduling your Vaser lipo surgery, you’ll schedule a consultation with us to confirm that you’re a good candidate for liposuction. Once the consultation has been completed, you’ll be able to schedule your procedure.

While some liposuction procedures are performed using only a local anesthetic, many are performed under general anesthesia. In the weeks leading up to your surgery, you will need to receive medical clearance from your regular physician. This is to ensure that you are healthy enough to be put under anesthesia.

The night before your surgery, you should abstain from eating or drinking after a certain time. For most patients, this is 12 hours before their arrival time. If you’re on any prescription medications, you will need to discuss that with us beforehand to determine whether you can take your medicine the day of the procedure.

Your Vaser Lipo Procedure

The Vaser lipo procedure begins by placing the patient under anesthesia. In some cases, general anesthesia may not be necessary. If you are only receiving liposuction on a small area, such as the chin, upper arms, or thighs, you may receive only a local anesthetic.

Patients receiving treatment on multiple areas or larger areas of the body are often put under general anesthesia for increased comfort.

Once the appropriate anesthesia has been administered, we will use the Vaser lipo device to emit ultrasound waves deep into your tissue. These ultrasound waves directly target fat cells and break them down. When we’ve completed this step in all of the treatment areas, we’ll move on to the liposuction portion of the procedure.

The liposuction process begins by making discreet incisions around the treatment area. We’ll insert a small cannula, or tube, into the incisions and gently suction out the fat that the ultrasound waves broke down earlier. We do this operation in a strategic manner that sculpts a more flattering figure and achieves your aesthetic goal.

When all of the areas have been treated, we’ll use small sutures or staples to close the incisions. The entire process can take anywhere from one to four hours, depending on the number of areas being treated.

Results and Recovery

About one to two weeks after surgery, your sutures or staples can be removed. It will take about six to eight weeks to see the final results of your Vaser lipo procedure. The tissues need time to settle into their new positions, and there may be slight post-op swelling that needs to go down.

During this time, we recommend avoiding any activity that could cause trauma to the surgical sites, such as intense exercise or contact sports. Other than that, most patients are able to resume their normal activities about one week after liposuction surgery.
