What Is Jeuveau?

Jeuveau is a neuromodulator, a cosmetic injectable similar to Botox that blocks communication between the nerve signals and the muscles. It prevents the muscles from contracting to help reduce the appearance of lines and wrinkles by giving the skin a chance to rest from repetitive expressions. It’s an anti-aging medicine that temporarily smoothes lines and wrinkles to help you achieve a more youthful appearance and look and feel your best.

How Does It work?

This injectable works by relaxing muscles to soften expression lines. Dynamic wrinkles form from repetitive dynamic movements, which occur whenever you express. Raising your eyebrows, laughing, smiling, squinting, and frowning are all examples of dynamic movements.

As your skin loses elastin, collagen, and hyaluronic acid as your age, it doesn’t recover from constant expressions like it used to. The result is the formation of lines and wrinkles that worsen over time as you continue to age. This cosmetic injectable provides a temporary solution for lines and wrinkles by smoothing them with its muscle-relaxing ingredients.

What Does It Treat?

This cosmetic injectable is designed to treat glabellar lines, which are the grooves that form between your eyebrows and often take the shape of the number eleven. However, it also has some off-label uses, including treating forehead lines, smoker’s, laugh lines, and wrinkle-like bands on the neck. How Is It Different From Botox?

Botox and Jeuveau are similar cosmetic injectables, but they are not the same. Jeuveau is manufactured with a different purification process, meaning that its formula is different than Botox. Botox is FDA-approved to treat several different areas of the face and body and Jeuveau is only FDA-approved to treat frown lines.

What Happens During a Typical Treatment?

Once we confirm that you are a good candidate for Jeuveau, we will schedule your injection appointment. This appointment only takes 10 to 30 minutes to complete. Injections are quick, and once your appointment is over, you can resume your normal daily activities.

Before administering your injection, we may apply a topical numbing solution to help numb the treatment area and ensure your comfort. However, most people tolerate the injection process well since the needle is thin and the process is virtually painless. Areas undergoing treatment may receive anywhere from three to five injections during an appointment.

The Aftercare

There is no downtime associated with this treatment, but there are some aftercare instructions you should follow to ensure the best results. We encourage patients to avoid exercise for at least 24 hours after this treatment. Exercise increases blood flow to your body, including your treatment areas, which can negatively affect your results. If you need to work out, make sure you schedule your workout before your injection appointment. You should also avoid alcohol, tobacco consumption, sun exposure, and any situation that increases your body temperature for 24 hours after your treatment. It’s important that you avoid lying down for four hours after your treatment and avoid touching your treatment sites. If possible, avoid applying makeup in the treatment site to prevent any type of adverse reaction.

When Will I See Results?

Most patients notice an improvement in their lines and wrinkles within two to three days of their initial injection. Results will continue to improve in the days following your treatment as the ingredients work to relax your muscles. Best results develop within seven to ten days of your initial injection.

When Will I Need a Follow-Up Treatment?

Most patients experience results that last for four to six months. On average, patients schedule follow-up treatments every four months to maintain a wrinkle-free appearance. However, you can schedule treatments as needed or contact our office to pre-schedule your appointment in advance so that all you need to do is show up.
