“I do love this treatment,” says Audrey, one of Dr. Rios’ experienced medical aestheticians. “It’s not instant, but you do start to see dramatic results that will please the patient.”
A microlaser peel procedure treats textural issues on the skin, such as acne scarring, the most common condition treated. The laser removes a precisely determined layer of epidermis, which smoothes the surface texture. Depending on the depth, recovery can be akin to a sunburn, lasting between three and five days. Recovery from a deep treatment may take a couple of weeks.
“With the Sciton laser, a computer controls the depth setting so we can customize the treatment for each and every patient,” Audrey explains.
“We do the initial consultation to make sure the patient is a candidate – another procedure may be more appropriate for resolving a particular issue,” says Audrey, who has received training from some of the country’s top dermatologists and physicians at national workshops for the Sciton laser. “Once the treatment is scheduled, we’ll give them a topical numbing agent to use before and after. So when they come in for the treatment, they are feeling comfortable because they have all the information and their topical cream is already waiting at home for aftercare.”
As part of the Rios Center’s patient-first approach, the only charge is for the procedure. “We don’t charge for our time with the patients. We offer numbing agents at no extra charge. It’s all about the patient experience – making them comfortable before, during and after their treatment,” says Audrey, who makes patient care a point of pride.
“I am really big on post-treatment care,” says Audrey. ”I like to make sure my patients have the follow-up appointments. I like checking in to make sure they are getting well and they have the correct skin products at home so they can maintain their results.”
A microlaser peel can be combined with other laser treatments to reduce office visits while maximizing the patient’s time. “I like to use the microlaser peel in combination with other treatments, like the IPL (intense pulsed light). So, if a patient wants to treat sunspots and freckles along with their acne scars, I can do that as one procedure, then they don’t have to come in an extra time,” says Audrey. “I want my patients comfortable and the process to be convenient for them.”
“We want our patient experience to be first class. We bend over backwards to take care of our patients,” explained Dr. Rios, the director of the Rios Center and Edinburg native. “Without our patients, we have nothing.”
