What is platelet rich plasma (PRP) therapy?
Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) consists of plasma that contains concentrated levels of platelets, the regenerative cellular structures that are an important part of the body’s natural healing process. Platelet-rich plasma contains three to five times the number of platelets found in normal blood circulating in the body and is full of growth factors that help regenerate and repair damaged tissues and promote circulation and cell growth in the treated area. When used for aesthetic purposes, this therapeutic treatment repairs damaged collagen and elastin structures and stimulates the production of new cells in the body, which improves the overall quality and health of the skin. PRP is an autologous treatment, meaning it is derived from the patient’s own blood, so there is very little risk of an allergic or adverse reaction.
Benefits of PRP
- Autologous treatment
- Repairs and regenerate damaged tissues
- Stimulates circulation
- Triggers production of new collagen
What is micro-needling?
This rejuvenating skin treatment uses a handheld automated device containing multiple fine needles that are used to create controlled punctures, or microchannels, in the upper layers of the skin. These punctures stimulate the natural healing response and trigger the production of elastin, collagen, and other skin support structures. Micro-needling treatments result in an improvement in the overall tone and texture of the skin and a reduction in the appearance of fine lines and acne scarring.
Benefits of micro-needling
- Reduces the appearance of large pores
- Improves tone and texture of the skin
- Reduces acne scarring
- Tightens loose or lax skin
- Improves overall skin health
PRP and micro-needling combination therapy
When used in combination, PRP therapy and micro-needling can provide a complete, restorative skin rejuvenation. The micro-needling treatment is performed first to create microchannels in the skin and then the PRP is applied topically to the treated area and allowed to penetrate and absorb into the skin. The micro-channels created by the micro-needling treatment allow for a quicker and better absorption of the PRP and maximizes the results of both treatments. When combined, PRP and micro-needling treatments can result in refreshed, radiant, younger-looking skin.
