Rhinoplasty, also known as a “nose job,” is a plastic surgery performed by a certified plastic surgeon. It is effective in correcting physical and functional issues with the nose. The plastic surgeon may select an open or closed procedure depending on the nasal abnormality that needs fixing. Both types of procedures are effective, although closed rhinoplasty is less invasive.

Nose surgery is mainly done for aesthetic purposes to correct the shape, length or projection of the nose. Clients with an injured, damaged or defective nose make good candidates for rhinoplasty due to medical reasons. The following are common nose problems that can be resolved with rhinoplasty:

What to Expect During Rhinoplasty Surgery
Whether a closed or open procedure is preferred, your plastic surgeon will perform the surgery in a gentle and conservative manner to give you the best results possible.
With a closed procedure, the surgical incisions are made inside the nose. This is opposed to the open procedure where incisions are made across the columella or narrow strip of tissue that connects the nasal tip to the nasal base. Either way, the surgeon will pull aside the skin covering the nose to gain access to the nasal bone and cartilage.
The nose bone structure is then sculpted, shortened, lengthened or reshaped to correct bothersome issues. If needed, cartilage may be taken from inside the nose to augment the nose structure. The nasal skin is then redraped and the incisions sutured in a way to reduce the risk of scarring.
