What a Mommy Makeover Can Offer

Mommy Makeover

Giving birth can take a toll on your body. It can leave you with sagging or excess skin and slack abdominal tissue — and it can drastically change the shape of your breasts. If you have recently gone through a pregnancy and would like to regain some of your pre-baby body, you can turn to a mommy makeover procedure.

At Rios Center for Plastic Surgery, we perform mommy makeovers to tighten your abdomen, remove excess fat, and lift your breasts. Learn more about what a mommy makeover is and what it can offer you.

What Is a Mommy Makeover?

Even diet and exercise cannot return a woman’s body to its pre-childbirth shape.

A mommy makeover is a series of surgical procedures that are performed in the same session. These procedures are customized to rejuvenate and restore the areas most affected by childbirth.

Most mommy makeovers focus on:

  • Improving breast symmetry
  • Correcting sagging breasts
  • Restoring breast volume
  • Removing excess abdominal skin
  • Repairing abdominal muscles
  • Reducing pockets of stubborn fat

To be a candidate for a mommy makeover, you must be in good overall health, and you must have fully recovered from childbirth. If you want to have procedures on your breasts, you must wait a few months after you finish breastfeeding to allow your breasts to return to their natural size.

It’s best to wait for a mommy makeover until you are sure you don’t want any more children. Going through another pregnancy will undo many of the benefits of the procedure.

Remember that if you plan to have a mommy makeover, you will not be able to lift anything heavy, so you will need help if you have young children.

What Procedures Can You Have?

There are many options for a mommy makeover. We offer liposuction surgery, tummy tucks, breast lifts, and more.

Breast Lift Surgery

A breast lift is a procedure that removes excess skin and tightens tissues, raising the breasts. It can be a good option if your breasts sag or if the nipples point downward, which is common after breastfeeding.

Breast lifts do not increase the size of your breasts, but we can perform a lift together with breast augmentation.

Liposuction Surgery

Liposuction is a surgical procedure in which we suction fat from certain areas of your body, such as your hips, abdomen, thighs, or buttocks. It also allows us to contour the treatment areas to give you the shape you want.

Women who struggle with pockets of fat that diet and exercise can’t get rid of benefit from liposuction. The best candidates are those who still have some skin elasticity.

Tummy Tuck Procedure

During a tummy tuck procedure, we remove excess skin and fat from your abdominal region while also tightening the underlying muscle tissue.

Having excess skin around your midsection after childbirth is common, and diet and exercise will not eliminate it. A tummy tuck can give you a smooth and toned abdomen.

Preparing for a Mommy Makeover

It is crucial that you schedule a consultation with us. We need to assess the areas you would like to get treatment for and review your full medical history.

We will ask for a medical evaluation, or we can get lab tests done to ascertain you are healthy enough to undergo major surgery.

You should tell us about all of the medications and supplements you take and whether you have ever undergone any surgical procedures.

To prepare for surgery, you will need to stop taking blood-thinning medications and supplements for at least two weeks before the procedure. If you smoke, you will need to quit at least a month before and avoid any other nicotine products.

During the week of surgery, don’t drink alcohol. Make sure that you also have your recovery area set up and that you have help since you will need to rest as you heal.

The Mommy Makeover Procedure

Eight hours before your surgery, you need to stop drinking and eating. Arrive at our center without wearing makeup, jewelry, or contact lenses, and bring comfortable clothes for after the surgery.

We will use general anesthesia for the procedure. The entire surgery can take between three and five hours, depending on which procedures we are performing.

Once we finish the surgery, we will take you to a recovery room to monitor you as you wake up. Most patients can go home after about an hour.

It is essential to get plenty of rest as you recover from a mommy makeover. We will give you instructions on how to take care of the surgical sites and how often to change the bandages.

You will need to take about two weeks off from work, and you will need to wait at least six weeks before exercising. For a few weeks, you will also need to sleep on your back or side with your feet and upper body propped up.

During your recovery, we will schedule a few follow-up appointments so we can monitor your healing process.
