Who is a Candidate for Eyelid Surgery?

eyelid surgery

Over the course of reading for an hour, your eyes will move nearly 10,000 times. Our eyes are among the strongest, busiest muscles in our body, but they also have the thinnest skin. As we age, our skin stretches, our muscles weaken, and our fat pockets begin to expand. We are here to help. You are warmly invited to learn more about eyelid surgery and if it is a good fit for you.

What is Involved with Eyelid Surgery?

There are different types of eyelid surgery, or blepharoplasty. Upper eyelid surgery is the most commonly performed procedure and typically involves removing extra skin that hangs over the upper eyelids. Sometimes, extra skin and redundant muscle will be removed. Other times, only the excess skin is removed. In extreme cases, fat is removed along with the extra skin and muscle.

Then there is lower eyelid surgery. The original lower eyelid surgery technique focuses on removing the excess deposits of fat that bulge beneath the eyes. Sometimes, excess skin is removed as well. The exact details of the procedure depend on a number of factors and will ultimately be determined during a consultation.

Am I a Good Candidate?

Good candidates for upper eyelid surgery often have vision problems caused by sagging upper eyelids. This procedure is also ideal for those who wish to have a rounder, more open eye. The best candidates for lower eyelid surgery have puffiness or bags beneath the eyes that make them appear tired and older than they are.

Blepharoplasty is an excellent option for people looking to correct an aged appearance caused by the following:

  • Excess upper eyelid skin
  • Excessive skin around the eyes
  • Droopy eyelids
  • Puffy or under-eye circles or bags
  • Wrinkles
  • Mad or tired-looking eyes

Eyelid surgery is ideal for individuals in the Rio Grande Valley and elsewhere who want a more youthful appearance without a full facelift. You also may be a good candidate for eyelid surgery if you want a smoother, younger-looking countenance without repeatedly going in for temporary cosmetic treatments. During your initial consultation, an expert will advise if you are a good fit for blepharoplasty.
