A Career Defined by Craniofacial Excellence

Dr. Barceló’s path to becoming an internationally recognized craniofacial specialist began at the School of Medicine at the University of Guadalajara, Mexico, where he graduated with honors. He completed his residency in plastic and reconstructive surgery at the prestigious Jalisco Institute for Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, University of Guadalajara, and was subsequently board-certified by the Mexican Board of Plastic, Aesthetic and Reconstructive Surgery. He joined the faculty of the Institute as Assistant Professor and later advanced to Associate Professor.
It was a growing passion for craniofacial surgery — one of the most complex and consequential subspecialties in all of plastic surgery — that brought him to the United States. He completed a fellowship in craniomaxillofacial surgery with the World Craniofacial Foundation at Medical City Dallas, one of the premier craniofacial centers in the world. He has served as Medical Advisor for the World Craniofacial Foundation ever since, collaborating with international leaders in ongoing research and surgical advancements in the field.
In 2001, Dr. Barceló joined Sage Plastic Surgery in Dallas, where he has built a distinguished reputation for surgical precision and deeply personalized patient care. He holds hospital privileges at Medical City Dallas Hospital and First Baptist Medical Center.

Transforming Lives Through Craniofacial Surgery

Dr. Barceló’s expertise spans the full spectrum of congenital, developmental, and reconstructive craniofacial conditions in both pediatric and adult patients. His work includes cleft lip and palate repair, craniosynostosis correction, distraction osteogenesis, craniomaxillofacial reconstruction, treatment of rare conditions such as Parry-Romberg syndrome, and complex facial reconstruction following trauma or tumor removal. At the Rios Center for Plastic Surgery, he focuses exclusively on craniofacial surgery — bringing that full depth of subspecialty expertise to patients across South Texas.
His contributions to the field extend well beyond the operating room. Dr. Barceló has authored over a dozen peer-reviewed journal publications and two book chapters covering craniosynostosis, distraction osteogenesis, bone generation, rare syndrome treatment, and craniomaxillofacial surgical technique. He has lectured nationally and internationally to leading plastic surgeons on syndromal craniosynostosis, distraction osteogenesis of the facial skeleton, and compromised airway management in obstructive sleep apnea.
